Liberals ride roughshod over public opinion in Overton

Events of the past few years in Overton give a graphic illustration of what happens when the Liberals are in power for too long.

Foxdown: plans for new houses with a lower than hoped for percentage of affordable housing. Attempts by the residents to get the percentage increased have been repeatedly rebuffed by the Liberals. Overton residents are being priced out of their village and are having to move to Andover, where prices are cheaper.

Play Areas: Liberal Cllr John Shaw's move over 12 months ago to axe play areas was not at all well received in Overton. Neither were the Liberals' attempts at damage limitation afterwards.

New Village Hall: residents' opinions are being systematically ignored. Despite an election defeat and a referendum result against, the Liberals are pressing ahead with their plans.

The people of Overton deserve fair representation which takes into account the views of residents.

Liberals sink to new lows in war with Ian Tilbury

Independent Cllr Ian Tilbury must be doing something right: the Overton Liberals hate him!

Overton born and bred, Cllr Tilbury was elected in May 2002 as a community councillor on the back of widespread opposition to Liberal plans to close Overton's community halls and build a new one in a totally useless location on the edge of town.

As if his election wasn't warning enough, a referendum was held, which he won hands down.

But when the Liberals want to do something, a trifling matter of widespread public opposition doesn't count for anything: they are STILL going ahead with their plans.

This causes them a problem: Cllr Tilbury is still there! And the residents are still behind him in opposing their plans. The Liberals could be out of Overton in 2 years! What should they do?

What they should not do, is report him to the Standards Board for England. We were  delighted to hear the Board threw the case out.
