Community Wardens
A borough-wide launch
of the
Community Wardens
scheme started in January following the successful piloting of
the town's first warden in Buckskin in 2003.
Community Wardens are there to help residents build a better community.
In Basingstoke they have established
proven track record in reducing crime and
improving neighbourhoods. |
 |
Community
Wardens :
* Help reduce crime and nuisance in the neighbourhood
* Help improve the environment by tackling litter and graffiti.
* Help residents with projects and building up the community.
Community Wardens are a National Policy Initiative of the Labour
Party.

Labour Targets Yob
Culture
Hooligans as young
as 16 will face fines of up to £80 as part of David Blunkett's attempts
to outlaw anti-social behaviour.
£75 million is being spent over
the next 3 years to support the drive to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Locally and nationally, Labour has a wide range of plans to deal with
youth nuisance:
* more Police on the beat
* the
introduction of Neighbourhood Wardens following the successful Buckskin
pilot
* the setting up of youth schemes along the lines of the successful scheme
at Winklebury,
which has significantly reduced crime there
* investing in Youth Workers
We are building
better facilities and listening to the community. Labour is determined
to deliver on this critical issue.
Buckskin
has the highest percentage youth population of any ward in Basingstoke.

Councillor Tony
Jones |
CCTV at the Buckskin Centre /
Burnaby Close
CCTV was funded by a grant provided by your Labour-led Borough
Council. The CCTV units have now been operational for 12 months. In that
time, the Borough Council and Police are pleased to report that crime has
been reduced. Edgehill Close
Due to the number of complaints received from local residents about
anti-social behaviour and general disruption in Edgehill Close, we have
spoken to the Council and have now had fencing introduced. Cllr Jones
says
"the fencing restricts acess through the close and has been
welcomed by the residents".
