Christmas Tournament 2001
Over
one
hundred players took part at The Queen's Club 16-19 December 2001.
The Ladies Christmas Singles
was won comfortably by the top seeded British No 8 Lorna Woodroffe. In
the final she beat second seed Cristelle Grier
6-2 6-1.
Notable
performers among the up and coming young players were Surrey players Charmaine
Brown (14) and Melanie South (15). Charmaine reached the round of 16
beating Melissa Gibb, seeded 10, before bowing out in three sets to 7th seed
Annabel Youthed. Melanie reached the semi-final beating Sarah Gregg,
seeded 6, and Melissa Berry, seeded 3, before losing in close sets to
Cristelle Grier.
