Ghost Writer by David Tristram At a last-night 'wrap' party. after a production of Hamlet, is one Edward Pinfold, a promising new playwright, and husband of the talented but tempestuous actress Ruby, who had played Ophelia. The production had been fronted by some lesser-known TV soap 'star'. and backed by acast of second-rate 'hams', most of who were at the party. Tragically, that very night, Ruby, a renowned reveller with a reputation for burning the candle at all three ends, is found dead in bed from an overdose of naughty pills and booze. The theatre world went into a state of mourning that barely lasted into the afternoon. So there you have it. We join the story on the first anniversary of the death of Ruby Pinfold, and what happens next could be somewhat difficult to believe. you see - well ........let's leave it at that for now..... Any member of the Soceity, or at the door Note: If you are purchasing your tickets at 'the door' may we respectfully request that you allow sufficient time for this. |

| Ghostly tale is like Carry On Hamlet The Centralian Players enjoyed their strongest performance yet, in David Tristan's comedy Ghost Writer, which opened for three nights at Henderson Hall in Abbots Langley. The story began on the death anniversary of the talented, but tempestuous, actress Ruby, who killed herself with a deadly cocktail of pills and booze at a last-night wrap party of Shakespeare's Hamlet, produced by her playwright husband Edward Pinfold. Edward, who has retired from the theatre-world and is now a drunkard is haunted by the memories of the wife he loved to hate. The tale unfolds in his run-down bedsit where he is visited by Ruby's ghost, she reveals to him it was murder not suicide that killed her. She tells her husband the killer must be caught or she is doomed to roam in limbo for eternity - the place between heaven and hell. The pair then set-up a play casting the actors at Ruby's death, and a plot which mirrors her murder, in an attempt to "capture the killer's conscience" - just like Hamlet caught the King's conscience. The play is best described as an unconventional marriage between Shakespeare's Hamlet, and a Carry On film. It's saucy dialogue was crammed with sexual innuendos, phallic symbols and bad language, and a cast that seemed to gel together well. The set was well designed and captured the depressing ambience of the playwright's run-dowm room and his broken life. David Tristan is considered one of Britain's most popular and prolific playwrights. Every year there are around one thousand performances of his comedies in amateur theatres in the UK and abroad. The Centralian Players, are always looking for new members, either acting, backstage or as a patron. For more information contact Wendy Gardner on 01923 492332.
