Branches

The main principle of construction

Create the trunk and a child branch, and a child branch of that child etc until you get to the lowest level of branch you wish to have.

Attach leaves, flowers or fruit geometry to the lowest level branch, using branch constraints. Then create a sub-object imposter of that branch and check the imposter display check box. Hold the shift key and drag that branch along to create an instance of itself.

Select the parent branch and create a sub-object imposter. Hold the shift key and drag this branch along to create an instance of itself.

Continue in this fashion, up the heirarchy until the trunk is the last branch to create a sub-object imposter of, and the tree is complete. Obviously as many unique branches as needed can be created to add variation and irregularity to the tree.

When exported, and subsequently viewed in the viewer, any instanced branches will be assumed to have the same child branches as the original. This means that only unique geometry needs to be exported, and allows a complex shape to use as little memory as possible.
