A happy introduction to Playgroup is very important, and when we offer your child a place, we also offer them the opportunity to visit the Playgroup on the appropriate session. During this session you will stay with your child, and if she sees you are happy and friendly with the Playgroup leaders they will soon become her friends too.
When your child first starts, we have found from experience that staying only prolongs the ‘agony’ of parting. We have found the best policy is to say good-bye and go home – with the emphasis on home – so that we may contact you quickly, if necessary.
However, we are not monsters and will not subject your child to any distress. If she really needs you to stay for a while, you are very welcome to join in the Playgroup activities. Having you there for a while will give her confidence in her new surroundings, enable her to establish contact with other children and adults, and she will then be happy to let you go home and leave her at Playgroup.
If she can settle gently and happily into the Playgroup, she will gradually grow into a confident and independent child.
