SLRs
The most widely used camera by amateurs and professionals over the last
quarter of a century is the 35mm SLR camera. SLR stands for Single Lens
Reflex camera and this name is derived from the way the camera operates.
The Camera has a single lens that is also used by the viewfinder. The image
is reflected to the viewfinder by a complex mirroring system that also
turns the image the right way up. When the shutter is released the mirror
moves out of the way and the film is exposed.
SLRs also exist in medium format and now also in digital, but are mainly
available in 35mm format.
35mm films for these camera's come in a wide variety of types from slow
25 ISO to very fast 3200 ISO and in Colour, Black&White and Slide Film.
Lenses on SLR camera's are usually interchangeable and exist in Wide Angle,
Telephoto, Zoom and Macro. There also exists a fast array of other add-ons
like flashlights, tripods, filters etc. This versatility coupled with the
light weight means that this camera is used by professionals for photojournalism,
sport, fashion, wildlife etc, everywhere where portability and speed are
essential.
