Advanced Photography at Cardonald College - Glasgow 2002/2003

Introduction
These web pages are the workbook part of the Advanced Photography unit
that runs over 26 weeks from September 2002 to April 2003 at Cardonald
College, Cardonald, Glasgow.
The requirements for this unit are a workbook detailing photographic techniques
and equipment, and twelve photographs divided in two or three projects
of six or four pictures.
For the first project I have chosen 6 photographs taken in September 2002
at the Glasgow Science Centre, and for the second project a nautical theme.
I have chosen this electronic format for the workbook to emphasize the changing photographic world. Traditional photographic processes are increasingly being overtaken by new digital techniques. In my view film based photography will soon be confined to a minor role comparable to vinyl records and 8-bit computers, strictly used by die-hard enthusiasts. Of course it is a shame to see the demise of such a mature technology where so much knowledge is available, but hey, time moves on. And does it really matter? The end result is the most important . Rules of composition don't change and learning new digital processes opens up new opportunities and ways of working.
