Target Traffic
Search Engines - the Bargain of the Millennium!
Search engines deliver the very best traffic to your site
because:
-
All visitors who come via a search engine are new
-
They must have entered appropriate keywords into the search
engine to find your listing, so they must be targeted
-
They found you, so they are motivated and "open to buy"
-
Get the search engine mechanics right and you'll receive
a steady, ongoing stream of visitors ...
...and new visitors = more sales = more success
for you!
You need to get your site on the first page of the search
engine's results for any particular search.Tricky to do, yes, but well
worth the effort.
The business of working the search engines to your advantage
is explained in great detail in Ken Evoy's Make Your Site Sell. I would
strongly recommend you get hold of a copy of it
here and read it thoroughly, it really is the definitive guide to traffic
building.
But the basic method to getting a good listing on the
search engines is:
1. Develop a strong site with lots of content-rich
pages. Design your site so that your customers enjoy the content while
being led on to your sales pitch.
2. Choose appropriate keywords for each main content
page of your site. Pick just one main keyword or phrase and maybe a couple
of general words that go with it. Use these as your metatags.
3. Submit your pages to the "big 8": The
only search engines that really matter are Excite, AltaVista, InfoSeek,
HotBot, Lycos, WebCrawler, Northern Light and Yahoo! (There's a great new
tool called Search Engine Commando that will automatically submit your
site manually to the best search engines. Find out more about it here.)
4. Sit back and watch the pounds roll in ... no,
only joking. Your site must always be evolving and extending, and likewise
you must keep a regular eye on your search engine listing, experiment with
new keywords and try out new ideas. Never stop working!
As I said, this is only a basic guide, and you'd do
well to read Make Your
Site Sell if you are serious about increasing your traffic flow. But
with some imagination and a lot of hard work ... and a little bit of luck
...you'll soon find you have a steady stream of interested visitors to
your site. Good Luck!
