Target Traffic
So you've chosen your perfect product and you've written
a site that sells ... now all you need are some customers! Find out now
the best ways to get those sales figures rising!
So Many Ways ... So Little Time
There are plenty of ways you could get people
to come to your site. Some may get the traffic moving. Others are just
a waste of time, money and energy. A few can even drive visitors away from
your site! And one way is the absolute bargain of the millennium! Check
out the options now and choose the best ideas for you.
Banner / Link Exchanges
As well as costing you time and maybe money to set up,
you could actually lose customers by using exchanges - because every link
you get costs you a link away from your site. What's the point in getting
people to come to your site, just to send them elsewhere? And you can bet
on them never coming back again too! Avoid like the plague.
Banner Ads
Attractive banners on appropriate sites can get the click-through
... but invariably don't. They tend to look too much like ads and put your
potential customer in the wrong frame of mind - "Uh oh, what's he trying
to sell?" They can also prove to be very expensive, especially if they
are based on a monthly fee. You could experiment with a killer banner on
an appropriate site using a "cost per click" system - but I wouldn't bother
myself.
Email Marketing
Spam spam spam spam ... Don't even consider it an option.
Only unscrupulous people send thousands of emails to innocent victims,
who then waste time and money downloading their mail. Spamming just annoys
the heck out of people who probably wouldn't be interested in your site
anyway. Don't do it ... it's just not worth it.
Newsgroups / mailing lists
A possibility, although you must choose carefully and
check the group's faq first - many don't accept anything they consider
"advertising", and those that do are usually swamped with similar ads.
Classified Services/Free-For-All Sites
These too are normally flooded with ads for sites, but
if you can find a suitable page it might be worth a go.
Not
seen anything that sounds too effective? I learnt how to attract traffic
using the free bonus report that comes with Make Your Site Sell. It was
worth the cost of the book in its own right! There are a few more productive
ways of getting traffic though, such as ...
Email Sig Files
In case you don't know, this is a small text file added
to the end of your emails. Although they only reach the people you contact,
be they friends, colleagues, members of a mailing list or newsgroup, sig
files are easy to do, cheap and fairly effective. Experiment to find the
best text, but don't make them more than about 5 lines long.
One Way E-Media
What?! Simple really - these are newsletters sent to
an opt-in mailing list. You can use these in a few ways - buy an advert
in an appropriate ezine, contribute an article that "gets the click" to
your site, or set up your own! Ezine promotion is effective because it
is cheap or free, and goes to a targeted audience who are already interested
in the area you specialise in. Give this a go!
Endorsement Marketing
This is even better than advertising in an ezine, especially
if your product is fairly low cost, like an e-book. You simply contact
the key person at an appropriate (non-competing) web site or ezine, and
offer them a free copy of your product. Suggest that you would be happy
to pay for a glowing review of your product in their newsletter/on the
site. This works because they will already have a community of customers
who are likely to take notice of recommendations!
You will have some success using
the above methods if you work hard at them. But the absolute best way to
get targeted traffic to your site is ... well, click on to find out!
