The Cars I've Rallied.
The following are brief specifications of the cars I've Rallied.
Vauxhall Chevette PBU 636R.
Engine ..1600cc Ford x flow lightened and balanced fitted with a stage 2 cylinder head. A 32/36 Weber carbeurettor.
This engine produced 80 bhp at the wheels.
The shell was a 1256 Chevette with a Safety Devices roll cage ,no strengthening was done to the shell.
Suspension was Bilstien shock absorbers with stiffened and lowered springs.
Gearbox was 1600GT Capri with specially made propshaft.
Axle and brakes were completely standard.
This car was put together very cheaply , I just did not have the finances at the time. But in using it we gained valuable experiences.
The Escorts.
Q674 TEP.
This car was a more specialised car than the Chevettes. It was put together with a lot more money.
The shell was seam welded , gussetted and strengthened. Fitted with a Safety Devices roll cage and diagonal bar.
The brakes were RS 2000 calipers with vented discs ( front) and XR3 discs and calipers ( rear ). All driven from a biased adjustable peddle box.
The engine was built for me by Mosleys of Llandeilo.
The head was stage 3 with steel rocker posts. The engine was lightened and balanced, the crank was tufrided and a high pressure oil pump. Also fitted was an AP racing competition clutch.The carbeurettor was a Webber 40 downdraught. This engine produced a reliable 90bhp at the wheels.
The Exhaust was 2.25in big bore manifold with a twin box system.
The Gearbox was a 5 speed from a Sierra.
The axle was strengthened and was fitted with a 4.7.1 ratio LSD unit.
Wheels were RS alloys fitted with Yokohama A001 tyres.
STH 79 K.
This car was very similar to the one above except it had a stage 4 head, a single 45 Webber side draught carbeurettor . Leuminition electronic distributor and ignition.the engine producedan excellent 112 bhp atthe wheels.
The brakes were vented discs front with Volvo 4 pot calipers and XR3 discs and calipers rear.
The gear box was a Quaife 5 speed straight.
