Thoughts For The day.

This thread was started on the forum by ad David Benjamin. But has been kept going by our Global Moderator, Lisa Redford and other members. I thought it would make a great addition to the main site.

No, I've not gone all religious, but I thought it would be a nice way to start each day. I'll start the ball rolling with the following:
When you board that plane to start your holidays, remember that it was built to British standards. There again, so was the "Titanic" .......................!! Regards, Benji.

Hi Babs, Thought you'd like today's thought. There was a poster in the de-brief room at ChildLine with those words on and a lovely picture of a little boy aged about 5 standing looking out across a lake in his dungarees with hands in pockets. So that when we went on the phonelines to talk with young people I was always aware that I could be making a memory and being there to listen to someone in their hour of need when no-one else was. That feeling has never left me.......and probably never will.

Thought for the Day: Friday 1st Sept 2006. As I missed yesterday TftD, here's a long one. Get the sick bag ready:

AROUND THE CORNER.

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and the weeks rush on,
And before I know a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face
For life is a swift and terrible race.
He knows I like him just as well
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine. We were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim"
"Just to show that I'm thinking of him"
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner! - yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir" "Jim died today"
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner a vanished friend.

Remember to always say what you mean
If you love somebody, tell them
Dont be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you.
Because when you decide that it is the right time, it might be too late.

Seize the day. Never have regrets. And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today

Tommy, Surely if you are humble you dont know the estimate of your own importance? Remember Cratchett in Charles Dicken's story?

Hi Tony, I stand corrected. I knew Mr.Knowledge would get it right. Who was Cratchett? By the way, you cant type D I C K E N S in as it comes up as 'thingy'. But you can type it in if you put spaces in between. I tried to type t e a s p o o n in the other day and it wouldnt let me. It came up as 'thingy' again. Apparently the word s p o o n means part of a woman's anatomy ! Never heard of it being called that before. Has anyone else? AND WHY a s p o o n ? Come on Tony, you must know the answer.

Hi Lisa,

Bob Cratchett was the father of Tiny Tim and bookkeeper at the firm of Scrooge & Marley in the thingyens novel Scrooge "A Christmas Carol" my most favourite film of all time (The Alastair Sim version)

Never heard of the sspoon reference but I think this board originates in America (The land of the free?) try teaspn, as most teaspns tend to be oval ? that's the nearest analogy I can get. then see what happens when you type Charlesthingyens?

I have one that I write in the back of my personal phone book everytime I buy a new one. It's by Karen Rene (whoever she is) I found it in a magazine years ago - here goes:-

Envy's such a little word yet such a lot of pain, is brought to us, when we begrudge, another's well-earned gain!

Hi Tony, Re: The Veil. I couldnt agree more. I am beginning to wonder what this country has come to. HELLO - this is a Christian country and we embrace ALL faiths but it seems we are allowing other faiths to dictate to us what, where and when we can do in our own country. When we visit other countries we should and do respect other faiths. I wouldnt dream of ramming my faith down someone else's throats in their own country. It seems we have lost our way somewhat. I applaud Jack Straw for taking a stand where no-one else would.
