I have included an extract from Jack's email below
Hello Alan
I discovered your great website last week and it brought back a lot of memories.
Particularly the reminiscenses of Fred Pickering, who I feel I should know.
I certainly knew two of his classmates, Raymond Chadwick and Billy Redfern.
The Chadwicks lived in Walnut St, Gorton, I can't remember where Billy lived.
I grew up in Pinnington Rd and our house backed on to Peter Pan Park. It's
tempting to start listing names, but that wouldn't achieve very much. Also,
my memories of Gorton would be very similar to Fred's, with the addition of
fishing for tiddlers in the canal and sitting on the window ledge of the Railway
Hotel on Chapman St, collecting train numbers. Just a little bit about me.
My name is Jack Baxendale. I grew up in
Gorton and have lived in Perth, Western Australia since 1969. I went to Abbey
Hey Junior School and left in 1948. I have attached a picture of my class
taken that year. I hope the quality is ok, but if not, let me know and I will
see if I can improve it without increasing the file size too much. I have
had a go at remembering the names, but allowance must be made for
the omissions and spelling errors.
Many thanks Jack
