History of the Royal Naval Association in Lincoln

Prior to the building of our Club in Coulson Road the early members of the RNA met at various Pubs across the city (some no longer here)

We started as the Old Comrades Ass. 1945-1953 at the Cattle Market Hotel

1956 monthly at the Lion and Snake

1960 weekly at the Cornhill Hotel

1962 at the Sloop ( started a weekly Tote to raise funds to build our own Club.)

1963 at the Turks Head and at the Victoria

1964 at the Hare and Hounds (Blandings)

We then bought the Goat Field on Coulson Road and proceeded to build the first stage of our Club. The first pint was pulled in April 1966 and the Official Opening was on June 4th 1966, by Rear Admiral Sherbrook.

During the first months all Bar work and cleaning was done by the members and their wives. The first Steward was Terry Speed and first cleaner was Mrs Iris Beet. We later acquired the Co Op laundry land and added the Concert Room onto the building (which was subsequently named the ‘ Stephenson Room’ in memory of Frank Stephenson, a past Chairman and founder-member) This was officially opened on December 15th 1967 by Admiral Sir David Luce.
