So, what is a Tenko those of you who don't know us might ask.
Tenko was the nickname for Dave Johnson, one of the founder members of WRG Forestry Team, husband to Alison, long standing friend of Sparky from the days when they worked together on the Lancaster Canal, and close friend of the other members of the Forestry team.

Tenko was diagnosed of a brain tumour in February 2005 and died in November 2005 at the age of 46.
The Forestry team lost one of their most valued members, as WRG lost one of their treasures. Tenko's involvement with WRG went back many years. He initially helped Mucky Mick Beattie with WRG Logistics based out of Blackpool in the late 80s / early 90s. He was the instigator and co-implementer of the ratchet system now commonly used in all WRG equipment trailers.

Working at Froghall
Well known at WRG committee for his matter of fact common sense, he rapidly became a well known, respected and trusted face in WRG.
Tenko enjoyed being part of the WRG volunteer security force at the National Festivals, and his rare radio announcements were appreciated by more than one. The then chair of IWA, Audrey Smith recalls listening to an incident unfolding where medical assistance was required but struggling to access a far stretch of towpath. Some discussion took place over the radio, with Tenko having the final word on the obstructing gate with padlock "take the bloody hinges off".
Tenko primarily involved himself in chainsaw activities but also participated erecting fences, and any other WRG activities. He was awarded jointly with Alison the KESCRG volunteer of the year in 1996, somewhat due to his efforts on the Thames and Severn uncover a bridge to see what's underneath and then put all the soil back again project.
He worked on almost every volunteer project on the system, spending many weeks and weekends working down at the Wey & Arun putting up fences, clearing wood, delivering logs, maintaining the Red lorry, an epic journey frequently made with Sparky.
He spent time working on the Lancaster Canal again alongside his long term friend Sparky.
