We own a small flower-rich meadow close to the cottage, which is under traditional management to conserve its diverse mixture of species. We will be posting more information and pictures of the meadow on these pages.
Bird Life of the Radnor Forest
The streams, meadows, woodlands and moorlands near the cottage support a rich variety of birds. We will be posting a species list and bird news on these pages.
In the meantime, here are a few typicla bird sightings reported from the Radnor Forest area:
- Hen harrier, 1 overwintered
- Goshawk, Nov. 99
- Red grouse, good numbers in Nov. 99
- Short-eared owl, 3+ overwintered
- Nightjar, spring, between Radnor Forest and Abbeycwmhir
- Great grey shrike, Nov-Dec 99
- Crossbill, several in Nov 99, and June-July
- Redpoll, several in Nov. 99
- More Radnorshire reports of Merlins and Hobbies
Radnorshire Wildlife Trust
- Radnorshire has the highest percentage of nationally and internationally important habitats for conservation in the UK - but all are in decline.
- RWT is the smallest Wildlife Trust in the UK, but also per capita the best supported!
- The RWT owns and manages 15 nature reserves in the county.
