OUR TRAVELS

September 2001 we had our first  holiday together in my caravan at North Walsham in Norfolk.              It was also Alice`s first  experience of caravanning. (we no longer have the caravan)

It was during the petrol shortage of that  year and we had to stay on two more days

to get enough fuel  for the return journey.

September 2001 we toured the North of England, travelling up the east to Beamish

and stayed two nights at  a  village called “ No Place” .  We travelled westward through the  Lake District  to  Carlisle (Alice`s home Land) and on to Barrow-in- Furness where we stayed a few days visiting her son and some of her friends before returning home via Manchester.

June 2002 we had a week in Southern Ireland doing all the touristy things.

Very laid back people with no sense of urgency who are quite content to stand and watch the grass grow  and that`s nice

in this mad world.

A very surprising thing though was being

served   “ Smash”   in a 4 star hotel  (in Ireland of all places).

December 2002 we visited the German “ black forest” region  for the Christmas markets.

We managed to sample one or two of their mulled wines and other local fare.

The freshness of everything on the fruit and vegetable stalls puts many a  British market trader to shame, I`m sorry to say.

May 2003 we spent a very leisurely week on the Norfolk Broads. We found some excellent restaurants for our evening meals and plenty local watering holes.

It was during this week on the boat that we decided to get married

September 2003 we  `eloped`  to Gretna Green and got married, no one had even guessed.

We phoned all the families after the deed was done.  Some were initially lost for words  but were soon wanting to know when the `bun fight` would be.

The weather and indeed the whole affair was super

December 2003 it was Austria for the Christmas markets,  also visiting Italy and Germany with a brief stop in Luxembourg.

We had hoped for snow but as you will see there was none, apart from on the mountains.
