Doors Box Set 2 - the return |
Following on from our recent review of the two box sets (see Archive) where we asked 'good value or bollocks', and sadly found ourselves entrenched firmly in the latter camp, we recently found an interesting web snippet that really pisses us off. During a visit to the excellent Doors Quarterly site we discovered the disturbing possibility that the much lauded 'New York' section of the Box Set might in fact be doctored to buggery a la 'Absolutely Live'. If this is in fact the case we here at Scorpywag feel that Elektra/WEA owe all of us mugs that bought this travesty a bloody apology. Do these people hold Doors fans in such contempt that they feel they can palm us off with sub-standard crap wrapped up in piss-poorly conceived concepts and then tell us any fairy-tale that comes into their head to get us to buy it. Jim Morrison must be spinning in his grave at the way his dream of The Doors has become a corporate nightmare. Where are his three fellow travellers on that celestial highway to the end of the night? Long gone as long as they get their million dollars plus a year. What with in-fighting about who remembers what, moaning about bootlegs 'cos they don't get any money and arguments over who owns which bit, Doors fans must be heartily sick of what's become of the world's greatest band. Don't forget guys you would be unheard of without Jim and he would have been nothing without you, so stop whining and give the people who supported you in good times and bad a fair deal. We don't want to own you but as fans (many of us for three decades) we do deserve a bit of honesty and respect, we don't mind if what you put out isn't mind blowing just don't lie to us about it. BBC Millennium Teletext Poll |
It's a shame that the dear old BBC has never followed up on it's 'Icon of the Century' poll with any programmes about the winner. Perhaps they thought it a forgone conclusion and another Beatles victory with John Lennon the clear winner . Imagine ( sorry about the pun ) their shock when Jim Morrison slaughtered all comers with over 40% of the votes more than twice his nearest rival, Kurt Cobain I think. A clear indication of how relevant The Doors still are today. It would be nice if major TV corporations were to show some interest in the band, who are infinitely more worthy of coverage than most of the forgettable crap we are plagued with on both cable/satellite and terrestrial TV channels. OK so we've been palmed off with the odd half hour now and then to keep us quiet but Scorpywag think it's time someone actually put a bit of effort in and found out what these guys were really about rather than an endless stream of NME type clichés.
