U18 classical guitar ensembles in Southampton

What, where, when?

The idea of Twango is to offer classical guitar ensemble playing to under 18s living in Southampton and the surrounding area, thereby offering guitarists a similar avenue for their music making as is available to players of orchestral instruments. Twango is part-funded by the award winning and innovative Southampton Music Service, a department of Learning Services, Southampton City Council.

Twango has a younger sibling, Twangolitos for classical guitarists up to grade 1. We organise regular rehearsals, concerts, trips and other events.

Things to look forward to in 09/10

We have had a number of brilliant concerts and workshops in 08/09, raising several hundred pounds for charities and to support our own activities. We are mpw in the final stages of planning our trip to World Youth Guitar Festival in August 09. Having been to the first one we know how good this is for our young musicians, and how much fun! So we are going back for seconds. We will also continue with our extensive offering of regular meetings, concerts for charity, rundraising events and all day guitar workshops in 09/10.

Twango and other meetings

Twango have approx. 2 meetings a month, on Wednesdays at 4.30pm to 6.00pm, at Foundry Lane School Primary School, Foundry Lane, Shirley. Please see the rehearsals page for details of the dates. Click here for a map.

Twango/litos is for classical guitar beginners up to Grade 1 plus a more advanced Twango group meeting at the same time and place. This is on Thursdays, during term time, from 3.45 until 4.45pm and meets in Bitterne Park Infants. This reflects our model of offering a pyramid struture on both sides of the City. Twango is a growing franchise.

Twango delivers three workshops a year. We have run three very successful workshops per year for the last 3 years, in addition to a series of regular meetings, public concerts and other performances at festivals.

Come and join inTwango and its associated groups are open to all under-18 classical guitarists in the region, not just Southampton. There is no charge to parents. We want to grow our ensembles so if you play classical guitar please get in touch and find out more...
