Today we are taking a walk in Clyne Gardens and later, in Clyne Valley Country Park. Here at the entrance to the gardens volunteer workers of the NSPCC are providing refreshments for visitors and at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.

Clyne Gardens is at its most colourful in the month of May attracting visitors from far and wide to see the wonderful display of azaleas and rhododendrons.

A small stone bridge, the brightly coloured pieris foliage and a primrose covered bank add together to make a pleasing picture.

In a week or two most of the many varieties of rhododendrons will be in full bloom but this particular variety is already at its best..

A shady spot to sit and...

......enjoy the view.

This part of the garden is known as Bluebell Wood. .

Hidden away in one corner of the wood I found a small quarry where ferns and bluebells grow undisturbed..

This grey squirrel didn't remain undisturbed however, he was so busy scratching away at the ground beneath the flowers that he did not see me approach until I was within feet of him, then he promptly scampered up this tree where he seemed happy to stay for a photograph. .

Another view of Bluebell Wood .

....and yet another, this time with white wild garlic flowers .

We leave the gardens now to visit Clyne Valley Country Park. .

The Country Park is alongside the gardens so it takes but a few minutes to go from one to the other. Here also we see an abundance of bluebells.

The park covers quite a large area and there are many pathways to explore.

Up until well into the last century coal was mined in Clyne Valley. An old winding engine rusts away among the leaves,.

We follow a pathway alongside a meadow where horses quietly graze.

.
This is the last picture of our springtime walk in Clyne. ... 'bye.
