Gangster

Gangsters make the neighbourhood a dangerous place - for pike!

The 'Gangster' is a result of developing a slightly faster sinking version of the (now discontinued) Weighted Wagtail.
They can be worked at almost any speed, but for best results a slow steady retrieve will get the body shimmying in an attractive 'come and eat me' sort of way! Gangsters have proved to be the best lure of the day for me on several tough trout-water days, they make an ideal alternative to a Wobbly Bob on the rare days that they don't work!

Gangster - approx. 115g. £13.50

Operative

New for Autumn 2011

The new 'Operative' lure is similar in weight and style to a Gangster but with a large paddle tail. The Operative is lightly weighted and I have pushed the size of the tail to the point where the lure is close to unstable. At slow speeds this produces a good body-roll and a pronounced wide tail action which is distinctly different from most other swimbaits. Fish it like a Wagtail, with a slow steady retrieve and an occasional sharp twitch of the rod tip to make the lure flutter up onto it's side, a deadly tactic when you want to keep a bait 'in the pike's face' to get a take.

Operative - approx. 115g. £13.50

Reaper-Z

New for Autumn 2011

8" long 'reaper' type lure with an unusual 'faceted tail'. Reaper-Z shine when used for 'finness' fishing over snaggy ground and amongst cover.

There are many potential options for rigging Reaper-Z, but as a starter thread one onto a 5/0 or 6/0 jig head, no heavier than 15g, and hop the lure back with good pauses between. Watch the line for takes when static and be ready to set the hook hard at any indication!

Reaper-Z £1.90

Wobbly Bob

A swimbait with a great wobbly tail action to really drive the big girls wild! Ideal for fishing waters such as reservoirs, big rivers and glacial lakes, it also makes a great trolling lure.

The hook rig system has a built-in swivel on the underside that allows the whole rig to pivot, reducing the leverage that a hooked Pike can exert on the lure, which make it harder for the fish to throw the hooks. Please note that Wobbly Bobs are now approximately 13g lighter than the original version.

The quality construction and really tough tail section keep this lure going long after most other swimbaits would have been consigned to the rubbish bin. If you think 'Bobs' are pricey consider this - I HAVE NEVER HAD A PIKE MANAGE TO BITE THE TAIL OFF ONE, and with a bit of judicious welding expect each lure to survive for at least a dozen fish - some have lasted for many more than that.

I wouldn't hit the trout waters without some 'Bobs' in my boat - nor should you!

Wobbly Bob - approx 162g. £13.50

Musky taken trolling a Wobbly Bob

Mega-Gangster

I have modified my old Mega-Wagtail mould to produce this super-sized version of the Gangster. Although it's a big mouthful it isn't too much of a monster to cast (because there is only the same amount of weighting as its smaller brother). When you need to apply the principle of 'Big Bait = Big Pike' then pick a Mega-Gangster!

Mega-Gangster – approx. 185g. £17.95

I only make small quantities of these from time to time, see Colour Chart for available colours

Wagtail

The Wagtail is a devastating lure with a rolling body action and a seductive wagging tail. When Wagtails were reviewed in ‘Pike and Predators’ magazine (Jan.’05) they were described as being “a lure that can rival the mighty (Bull) Dawg ”.

A slow-sinking unweighted lure that is ideal for when you don't need the lure to go deep. You will find that the Wagtail is simple to use with a straight retrieve (not too fast) with an occasional pause or twitch of the rod tip. This lure is amazingly durable because the hook rig will usually pivot away from the lure on the take, which results in the lure being safely outside the Pike's mouth - and so away from its teeth - during the fight. Check the gallery page to see an example of how the rigging system works.

Wagtail - approx. 86g. £12.50

I've posted some useful Wagtail tips on the 'Lure Anglers' Forum

Mini-Wagtail

Similar to the Wagtail but smaller.
The body is proportionately slightly wider than the standard Wagtail. This keeps the smaller sized lure thick enough to be tooth resistant. It has slightly less body roll than the Wagtail but can be fished a little faster.

Mini Wagtails are unweighted slow sinkers; brilliant across weedbeds and for shallow venues such as drains and canals.

Mini-Wagtail - approx. 45g. £9.95

Curly Jack

This slow-sinking pike-shaped lure is just asking to get eaten! It looks tempting enough on a straight retrieve but a twitch of the rod will cause it to turn to one side, which is great for inducing takes from those half-interested followers.
Enthusiastically reviewed in Pike And Predators issue 108!

Similar hook rig system to the Wagtail means long lure life and easy unhooking.

Has proved so successful in the “natural” finish that I got a bit carried away and, as a result, you can now own it in a range of colours to suit differing conditions!

Curly Jack - approx. 72g. £12.99

See the Colour Chart for available colours

Deep Jack

Fast sinking version of the Curly Jack which will run straight and stay deep. Has a modified rigging and head design with a built-in swivel on the underside that allows the hook rig to pivot, reducing the leverage that a hooked Pike can exert on the lure making it harder for the fish to throw the hooks.

Deep Jack - approx 23cm, 108g. £13.50

Sprog

A versatile, unrigged lure that can be mounted on a jig hook for fishing deep, or used unweighted as a brilliant shallow-running lure over weed or structure.

For shallow applications I recommend fitting either an easy-rig or shallow-rig (see accessories). Keep the rod tip above horizontal and use a fairly fast retrieve style – oh, and hold on tight! I love this lure, probably because my first lure-caught “20” was on a Sprog, and so was my second, later on the very same day! Check out the gallery page for pictures.

Sprog - approx. 21cm, 56g. £5.50

Available in –
Fl. Orange/Fl. Yellow (illustrated top) Glitter Smoke; CURRENTLY OUT OF ALL OTHER COLOURS - you may find some more available at 'The Friendly Fisherman' website

Big Curly Shad

Another unrigged lure, that can be rigged up in similar ways to the Sprog. It is best fished slowly or with a “sink-&-draw” style retrieve to highlight the curly tail’s superb rippling action, but you can throw in the occasional jerk of the rod which will cause it to sweep off to one side - deadly!

Big Curly Shad - approx. 18.5cm, 75g. £5.50

CURRENTLY I HAVE NO B.C.S. IN STOCK - you may find some available at 'The Friendly Fisherman' website.

Bag of Slugs

No more gooey mess! Realistic Slugs for stalking Chub on those days when you don't fancy pike fishing.

Bag of Slugs - 4 per pack, two large and two medium £1.95

Available in Black only

Therapy Tails

Bring new life to your lures with some "re-tail therapy"!

Large curly-tails for easy replacement of damaged/missing lure tails. Therapy Tails can be fused onto most soft plastic lures using a hot knife or soldering iron. Large size which suits the Zoota Lures range, Bulldawgs, Sandras, etc. - or can be trimmed down to suit your own needs.

2 tails per pack  £2.50

Available in –
Fl. Orange, Pearly White. Other colours are availabvle from time to time, please contact me if you need something specific.
