Mumbles Hill.

As it is a fine sunny day and having a couple of hours to spare I decided to take a walk over Mumbles Hill so I parked my car and set off down through the village.

There are fewer people on the prom now that most of the summer visitors have left.

I've brought my new digital camera with me today to test out its lens. I stopped near the laid-up boats and used the zoom lens to take this picture, aiming the camera over the rooftops, at the 13th century castle perched above the village.

Although it's mid September, the gardens are still full of colour.....

..... as are the tubs and pots of flowers outside these lovely old cottages. This is Dickslade and this flight of well worn stone steps leads to the start of the path to the hilltop.

Before leaving Dickslade, I look back down the steps and over the bay to Townhill and the western side of Swansea.

From the steps the path climbs steeply through woodland to reach the top.

Where the path reaches the top, benches are placed ready for those who feel the need to rest after the climb..

Although I was puffing quite a bit by the time I got to the top, I resisted the temptation to rest until I reached this bench which I knew was only a little further along and worth the extra effort for the wonderful views from this spot. Swansea City centre lies in the valley between the two hills.

Another view of Swansea using the zoom lens..

Looking back towards Oystermouth. In the trees above the houses you can see the remains of the Norman castle. Down below is the Nab Rock slipway. The tide is out leaving the boats high and dry.

Further along the hill, the Mumbles lighthouse comes into view so another opportunity to use the zoom lens. During WW2 the lighthouse island was part of our shore defences and one of the concrete gun emplacements can be seen in the picture.

Descending the hill on the Bracelet Bay side we see the top of the Coastguard Station just over the brow of Tutt Hill. The collection of buildings at the end of the car park is a restaurant.

Now almost at the foot of the hill from where there is a good view of lighthouse and the middle island.

After crossing the road I go down onto Bracelet Beach. It's a bit rocky in places but that doesn't put off the hundreds of summertime visitors.

My last picture is the 'Big Apple'. This is a well known Mumbles landmark and has stood on this spot at the edge of Bracelet Bay for as long as I can remember. Although, sometime, in recent years it has changed its colour from red and green an all over green variety. The road from here leads back to Oystermouth, so for now......................'bye.
