My walk this morning starts from St. Mary's Church. Probably constructed in the 13th century it has a typical Norman saddle back tower and the porch has a 12th century Norman doorway believed to have come from an earlier church. Within the church is a memorial to Petty Officer Edgar Evans who died along with Captain Scott on the expedition to the South Pole.

At the top of the steps leading down to the beach one can get a good view of the sweep of Rhossili Bay.

Near the bottom of the steps I took this photo of Worms Head, the most westerly tip of Gower. The name comes from the Viking word Wurm meaning dragon.

I had come down on the beach to photograph the wreck of the Helvetia. It was driven ashore in 1887 but all that can now be seen of this wooden ship is the stem and the timber ribs. At the far end of the bay is the tidal island of Burry Holms.

However, it is still a favourite subject for photographers.

Below the Rhossili Downs and facing the sea is the Old Rectory. It was built when the living of Rhossili was combined with Llangennith and at a position approximately halfway between the two. It is now a National Trust holiday home.

I climbed up the steps back to the village.... these two whitewashed houses looked interesting.

There were quite a few people out for a morning walk and I followed along behind as I made my way along the top of the cliffs towards Worms Head.

A notice warns of the danger of getting too close to the edge.

These cliffs are 200 feet high. Just look how small the people on the beach seem.

Another view of the bay.. and a sure footed sheep..

At the end of the headland is the old coastguard hut.

A path leads down almost to sealevel and at the bottom is the rocky causeway to the Worm.

The causeway is covered at certain states of the tide and it can be extremely dangerous to attempt to cross.

Just a little further to go and I'll be back in the village... and time to go home.
