eco-wand is a set of 6 low cost USB measuring wands :-

The PRO models allow extra temperature probes to be attached for more scientific use.

The wands measure the temperature, humidity and pressure of the air around you and connect to your computer through a USB port.  They measure the environment around your workspace but each has a different set of sensors designed for different functions. The table below shows which wands do what..

The software comes free with the hardware and detects which eco-wand you are using.  The installation looks to see if the software it needs is already on your computer.  If it isn’t, you will be prompted to allow it to be installed.

The USB port on your computer or hub may not be the best place to measure the comfort of your workstation.  To re-locate the wand, you need a USB Extension cable.  We can supply 2 types, either a straight cable or a USB Docking Ball which holds the wand up vertically.

To  use the External Temperature facility, you require a PRO model and an External Temperature Probe for each measurement point. This allows the temperature measurement point to be up to 1 metre from the wand.  The original  idea was that you could use this to measure the temperature of the air flowing from the fan on your computer to warn of overheating.

If your computer runs Java and has USB ports, eco-wand software should run on it. This includes computers with any Windows versions from Win98 onwards, Linux, Mac OSX or Solaris.  Not yet adapted to Netbooks.
