Cosmetics testing on animals ban

The European Parliament has voted to ban the sale of cosmetics which have been tested on animals. The move will put an end to animals being harmed just so that consumers can enjoy bubblier bubble bath.

Alan Winter says: “Bathroom shelves are already packed with shampoos, deodorants and countless lotions and potions. We do not need any more products intended to flatter human vanity if the price to be paid is continuing animal suffering”

The law that protects pets has changed

On 6 April 2007, the law that protects pets changed.

The Animal Welfare Act, puts a legal responsibility on pet owners to meet the welfare needs of their pets. This includes:
  • A proper diet, including water.
  • Somewhere suitable to live.
  • Any need to be housed with, or apart from, other animals.
  • Allowing animals to express normal behaviour.
  • Protection from pain, suffering, injury or disease.
