FINCH family of South Tawton and Hittisleigh, Devon,
Creech St Michael, Somerset and Gloucester, England.
Samuel Finch was born about 1776 in South
Tawton, Devon, England. In 1806 he
married Susannah BEER at Hittisleigh, Devon, England.
They raised a large family in Hittisleigh including a son, Samuel born in
1821.

of the children of Samuel and Elizabeth Finch.
Samuel (Sam)
(born 1856). He
became a
policeman in Bristol in 1878. He
retired as a sergeant in1904 and received a certificate of service marked
exemplary, a gold Albert chain and pendant and a purse of gold.

Charles Manfield (Charlie) (born 1871) He owned and ran hardware and paraffin oil business in Gloucester.

Henry (Harry) (born c 1872).
He owned and ran a basket making business in Gloucester.

Arthur Bertram (Bert) (born 1875). He was my Grandfather and became an oil merchant in Creech and later a basket maker in Gloucester.

He married Ada Edney in 1902 at Creech St Michael. Arthur and Ada had six children. The family moved to Gloucester 1920.

The fourth child was Judith's mother Emily Manfield Finch born in 1908. She married Hubert Claude Surrey Hayes in 1937
