The
brothers of Joseph Hayes (born 1833)
James
Hayes.
Born about 1832.
He spent much of his life living in the Canton area of Cardiff.
He was a plasterer and married Elizabeth REES daughter of
John and Anne Rees. The marriage of James and
Elizabeth took place at Llandaff Cathedral in 1858.
They had at least six children but sadly James died of phthisis (TB) in
1879 and his wife, Elizabeth died of the same disease less than two years later.
Five of their children were living in Roath, Cardiff in 1891.
Mary Ann Elizabeth Hayes, second daughter of James and Elizabeth Hayes
married William GREEN, gardener in 1882 and at the time of the 1991 census
Alfred, John, William and Ada Hayes, Mary Ann's brothers and younger sister were
living as lodgers in the same house as William and Mary Ann Green and their five
children.
George
Hayes.
Born 1840. He
married his second cousin, Caroline Hayes of Cheltenham in 1861.
They emigrated to New York in 1865.
George built up a large business at 71 Eighth Avenue ,New York.
He manufactured skylights and other parts for the building trade.

John
Frederick Hayes.
Born
1843. He became a plasterer. He
married Clara WILKES daughter of hairdresser, Charles Wilkes. Neither John nor Clara have been found in the 1881 census.
Did they go to America to join George?
Alfred's school writing book is in the Gloucestershire Record Office
reference. D5559/4/1
Reuben Charles Hayes. Born 1847. He became a bricklayer. He married Elizabeth Jane TIMBRELL in 1880 and probably stayed in Gloucester.
Arthur
Daniel Hayes.
Born in 1852. He went
to Southport Lancashire where he became a plumber on the railway.
He died in Southport from a stomach ulcer in 1886.
