Following his split with Alice, Gomer moved to Kilmersdon where he became Superintendant of the St Johns Mine Rescue Team. He lived in Old Pit Cottage which today has a memorial to Norton Hill Mine in its grounds.
Following the birth of her fourth child Alice moved to Windmill, Porthcawl in 1910 after Gomer left home taking the children with him.Three years later on 14 Febuary 1913 she was admitted to the Countly Asylum near Bridgend. At the time of admittance she was 6' tall and weighed 8st 1lb. The reason for her condition was said to be the ill treatment and heavy drinking of her husband. She died whilst in care and her family claimed her body refusing a post mortom. Alice was buried in the Municipal Graveyard, Bridgend where later on her parents were buried next to her along with sister Lucy.
