The A to Z of Britney Spears: N-Z

N is for... What's Next?

A new album is planned for 2001 and there are also rumours of a Britney movie. The script being touted concerns three childhood friends who meet up with a musician and travel across America. A musical road movie which sounds a lot of fun.

O is for... Oops! I Did It Again
Lyrics

Anyone who were hoping that the Queen of Teen would fail to follow up her first album success must have been severely disappointed. If anything Oops I Did It Again has been an even bigger success with the leading track and Britney in a tight red plastic jump-suit storming the charts around the world. The album was a second no 1 in the US and a no 2 in the UK, beaten only to the top by Whitney Houston's greatest hits.

P is for... Prince William

The UK press went wild with speculation in 2000 that Britney and the future king of Great Britain, Prince William were about to start dating. Stories of emails, telephone calls and arranged meetings were all over the papers but as usual it was 99% untrue. It has been confirmed that Britney and the Prince did exchange a few emails however...

Q is for... Queen of Pop

While Britney may be the Princess of Pop, the Queen is still reckoned to be Madonna. As you would expect Britney is a big fan but Madonna surprised the world by sporting a tee-shirt with 'Britney Spears' emblazoned on it when she performed her first American concert in years to promote the latest album 'Music'. Since then there have been many rumours with both artists' management confirming that talks concerning a duet in the future have taken place. However these may be long-term plans...

R is for... Ruthless

After failing to get the Disney Club role the first time, Britney appeared on Star Search and then moved with her mother and young sister to New York so she could study dance and acting at various stage schools. Her father and brother stayed in Kentwood during this period and Britney is grateful that her parents allowed her to split the family during term time. While in New York she played an evil child in an off-Broadway play called Ruthless.

S is for... Stronger

Britney's third single from Oops! was Stronger which peaked at no 7 in December 2000 in the UK but which is still climbing the US charts. The video shows a vamp-like Britney casting aside a boyfriend and doing acrobatic tricks with a chair. It also has an odd colour effect which gives the singer an almost blue face...

T is for... Justin Timberlake

When her music career took off Britney was dating a local boy called Reg Jones. Although both tried to carry on with the relationship, constant promotional tours meant Britney could spend very little time at home, and the relationship ended amicably. Since then the media has tried to link Britney with a variety of stars but especially with curly-haired 'NSync singer Justin Timberlake who Britney has known since her days at Disney. The most recent rumours suggest marriage is on the cards and that the two have bought a house together in Hollywood. Both parties deny the relationship and stress that the pair are just good friends...

U is for... Unwanted Attention

There are mostly positive elements of worldwide success but there are one or two drawbacks too, most notably the intrusion of the media into one's private life and the unwanted attention of some of the less savoury characters who believe they are fans. Security around Britney Spears has been tightened over the last year after a number of incidents involving the general public. At a concert a fan invaded the stage and was only stopped from confronting Britney by the intervention of a dancer; Britney was phoning her mother from a hotel-room balcony when she suddenly noticed a middle-aged man a few feet away leering at her from the next balcony; a young man turned up at her parents' house demanding he see the star. There have been other incidents. Britney says she finds the 40-something male fans the most worrying...

V is for... Virginity

Recently the Church of England praised Britney Spears because she has publicly stated that she is waiting for her wedding night before having sex something she has in common with most of the young teen idols. One exception appears to be her musical rival Christine Aquilera and it's rumoured the two will debate the issue on MTV during the upcoming valentine season...

W is for... No One-Hit-Wonder

In the eighties there were a number of girl singers like Tiffany who had a massive hit before disappearing back into obscurity. Many critics believed Baby One More Time and Britney Spears would follow this pattern. However Jive Records had almost ensured continued success by delivering an album with several candidates for follow-up singles. While none were as begin as her debut they sustained Britney's career throughout 1999 until the advent of Oops I Did It Again propelled back to the top of the charts.

X is for... X-Rated

Britney is the most searched for person on the internet and while many of those searches are for nude or naked pictures, these don't exist as she has never done any nude modelling. However a raunchy photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine got Britney in deep trouble with Christian groups who felt she was abandoning family values and with the record company who wanted to retain a squeaky clean image. In fact Britney's parents had been present at the shoot and in any case Britney has been raunchy in most of her videos...

Y is for... Youngest Ever

One of the reasons Britney's debut was so spectacular was that she broke the record for the youngest artist to have a number one single and album in the US charts.

Z is for... Zodiac

Born on December 2nd, Britney is a Sagittarius...
