The A to Z of Hit Albums 2000 (UK): P
Primal Scream
The latest release from Primal Scream with Glaswegian Bobby Gillepsie on vocals
but little else remaining from the original 80s line-up, Xtrmntr debuts at no 3 on Feb 6th.
It's an angry album, and while essentially non-commercial, it manages to fuse rock and dance in
original fashion. Loud, the singles Kill All Hippies and Swastika Eyes figure
amongst the highlights. If you liked the old Primal Scream you may not like this... but if you
like a band to develop and change, then this new direction may be for you...
... Pearl Jam
... Placebo
It's fun having a band that people will either love or hate in the charts and with Brian
"Androgenous" Molko acid simperings over a wicked guitar, Placebo carry on up that
glam rock path with Black Market Music. The album already has two hit songs under its
belt, the confusing Taste In Men and Slave To The Wage, and there are other
stand-outs including Spite & Malice, Special K and Commercial for Levi.
Not radically different from what has gone before but with a more mature song-writing style,
Placebo prove that you don't have to be in-yer-face and screaming profanities like RATM and Limp Bizkit to
be disturbing... The album debuts at no 6 on October 15th.
