The A to Z of Hit Albums 2000 (UK): O
Oasis
What's that old saying about being nice to the people you meet on the way up? Whatever it is,
Oasis who were virtually Gods in the British (and world) rock circles seem to be hitting
the self-destruct button. Noel Gallagher said it would take time for fans to get
the latest album Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants but with the brothers refusing to
share a stage, fans all over the world angry at not seeing the whole band on tour and rumours
of solo projects or splits, it's looking like there's no time left. The album debuted as expected
at no 1 on March 5th, but has only spent a further two weeks in the Top 10 since. Top tracks
include Who Feels Love?, Gas Panic and Sunday Morning Call...
... Daniel O'Donnell
Daniel O'Donnell is incredibly popular in the West of Scotland where I live and is not so unpopular elsewhere as
proven by the no 4 debut of his latest album Faith and Inspiration on October 22nd. His
audience is mostly middle-aged women who love his irish charm and handsome looks. Live shows are
always sold out and many pay for holidays in his home-town just to get a chance to talk to their
idol. This
collection of songs should please fans - Morning Is Broken, Wind Beneath My Sails
and Annie's Song are amongst a predictable set. Another sure-fire big seller over the Christmas
period.
