Observers at a Sunday morning session

Associate Members Guidance

You will be paired up with one of our qualified Observers who will take you out in your own car at a time and place convenient to you both, and the first Sunday of every month you will be encouraged to attend the Car park session to go out with a different Observer.

After an initial assessment to determine the associates standard of driving they will begin their course which includes introduction to “The System of Approach to Hazards” “car control” “Motorways” and general road sessions which will include all types of road  i.e. City driving, country roads, dual carriageways and also manoeuvres, reversing, turning in the road, parallel parking.

Each session lasts for about an hour and is conducted by one of our qualified observers, who will accompany you in your own car and advise you in the various aspects of Advanced Driving.
When it is considered that you are up to Test standard, you will be offered a mock test which will be with a senior observer.

The Test itself can then be booked and is conducted by an IAM appointed examiner, who is a serving or retired Police class one driver. The Test lasts about 90 minutes and covers about 30-40 miles covering all types of roads.

When you have passed your test you will then become a full member of the group and may if you wish, enrol on our Observer training course (Free} and help other drivers to become Advanced
