About Kate's Krafts
On my annual trip to the vets, talking as you do, my vet mentioned that he worked for a time in Northumberland with a lot of working farm collies who suffered from wrist problems due to landing heavily after jumping walls and fences whilst out working on the farm. As I compete in flyball with my collies he advised that I find some way of supporting the wrist against future injury from all the repetitive jumping and consequently landing which happens in flyball.
From this visit I did the usual and went on line to see if there was anything available – unfortunately all I could find were protective boots, designed more for keeping feet clean than supporting a joint. As I am a crafty person I got my thinking cap on and came up with the design for the wrist protector, I made up a prototype and took it back to my vet. He thought that they were great and just what he had in mind.
Since then I haven’t looked back – making them for my own dogs got them noticed on the flyball circuit, and even on national television when my dog competed at Crufts. More and more people approached me about wrist protectors for their dogs as there was nothing available– that’s how Kate’s Krafts came about in 2001. Now I am selling them up and down the country to flyball and agility handlers and even some vets are recommending them for dogs with tendon problems.
Various deviations on the original design have subsequently been taken up, the midi protectors when someone with a smaller dog ordered some. The hock protectors when I was approached by someone having problems with a dog scuffing his hocks every time he went out running. As each pair is individually hand made I can make adjustments as, when and where needed, so please bear in mind – if your dog has a problem, maybe I can help – maybe you should contact the K team!
