Burrell and Palmer Strike Gold at British Masters Indoor Championships.

Reigning Sportsman of the Year Dave Burrel struck gold at the weekend in the British Masters Indoors Championships at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. The Championships includes all the outdoor throws as well as indoor competition, and includes age groups from 35 upwards. Dave won the Over 40 age group Hammer (35.68m), and gained Silver in the Discus (33.84m) and Bronze in the Javelin (39.03m) and 35lb Weight (11.82m). The performance was all the more remarkable when you consider Dave has an ankle injury, for which he is awaiting an operation.
Rob Palmer absolutely destroyed the Over 35 3000m field, winning by over 30 seconds, in 8m 50.77. This makes Rob the UK No1 ranked over 35 athlete this year, and no 47 overall.
Another Luton AC athlete in the medals was evergreen Des Wilkinson in the Over 45 60m hurdles with a very close Silver Medal in 8.93s.
Other finalists on the day were Jayne Rasmussen (4th in the Over 40 200m in 28.47s) Lance Croft (6th in the Over 40 400m in 57.03s) and Keith McLellan (4th in the Over 50 1500m in 4m 53.83 and 4th in the Over 50 3000m in 10m 00.71s).
