SOUTHERN WOMEN’S TRACK&FIELD LEAGUE
MATCH 5 – 28TH JULY STOCKWOOD PARK, LUTON
In the fifth match of the season, at Stockwood Park, Luton AC’s Ladies overwhelmed the opposition to run out winners with 150.5 points. Blackheath & Bromley were second with 86 points, Yeovil were third with 72.5, Swindon were fourth with 67 and Peterborough were 5th with 58.
There were many outstanding performances, but Shannon Bunker and Jayne Rasmussen performed brilliantly, finishing first in all four throws. More success followed in the field with Emma Hughes winning both the Long jump and Triple Jump with Katie Doody winning the B string Triple. Lauren Randall took maximum points in the pole vault and B string High jump.
Emma Hughes and Sarah Conway ran well to finish second and first in the A&B string 100m and then changed strings to do the same in the 200m. They were both part of the winning 4x100m relay team in a new club record of 51.5seconds. Also in the relay squad were Jayne Rasmussen and Tramaine Reindorf. Rosie Keane was second in A string 800m with Chloe Stearn winning the B string. Claire Bassill had a very successful day, winning the 1500m and 3000m double, with Charlotte Hardy winning the B string 3k. Claire also "filled in the gaps" by taking 2nd place in the B string pole vault and A string 400m hurdles and first place in the B string 100m hurdles with Karen Murphy winning the A string.
A brilliant day was marred by injuries to two key athletes, in the first race, Stephanie Chevalier fell badly in the 400m hurdles but still managed to finish in second place in the B race. Later in the afternoon, Shannon Bunker sustained a serious injury to her knee whilst winning the A string Javelin, the final throwing event of the day and was taken to hospital. Overall this was an impressive team performance, covering all the events and puts the the team into 8th place in the division out of 24 teams.
