Well done to Buzz, Des and Keith.
Luton Athletic Clubs' Dave Burrell wins Gold at UK Masters Indoor Championships
at Picketts Lock
Luton Athletic Club thrower Dave (Buzz) Burrell had a successful UK Masters
Indoor Atheltics Championships, at Picketts Lock on the 3rd and 4th of March.
Dave followed up a fantastic outdoor season by capturing Gold in his favourite
event, the Weight Throw in the M40 age group. He threw 13.47m to narrowly win
gold. Dave missed the beginning of last years outdoor season after undergoing
shoulder surgery, but has followed up some great performances at the end of
the year with a full set of gold, silver and bronze medals. Dave achieved his
silver medal in the discus with 34.97m and also achieved bronze in the shot,
with his second longest throw ever of 11.52m.
Dave has been nominated in the Luton Sports Awards to be held on the 29th of
March, together with promising Under 20 hammer thrower Suzanna Wise..
A former winner at the Luton Sports Awards, Des Wilkinson, won silver in the
M40 60m Hurdles. Despite being impeded by an arm from the adjacent lane at the
first hurdle, Des recovered to gain a well deserved silver medal. Des will hopefully
be joining Dave at the European Masters Indoor Athletics Championships in Helsinki
on the 22nd to the 25th of March.
Middle distance runner Keith McClellan also won bronze in the 3000m M50 race,
after coming home 6th in the 1500m.
