East Anglian League 2nd Meeting 13th June at Peterborough

Much better conditions than the 1st meeting saw a slightly depleted Luton team grab a creditable close 2nd overall spot to Nene Valley at Peterborough. The near perfect conditions saw many new club records –

U13 Girls – Lisa Clarke (200m=, 70m Hurdles and Long Jump) and Zazie Hillsden (Discus.

U15 Girls – Stephanie Chevalier (Long Jump).

U17 Women (competing for Senior Women) – Wendy Lidyatt (80m Hurdles) and Suzanna Wise (Shot and Javelin).

U13 Boys – Paul Clarke and Isaac Rasmussen (200m) and the 4 x 100 Relay Team.

U15 Boys – Theo Williams (200m) Harry Durkin (80m Hurdles) Colin Johnson (Triple Jump) and Terry Paterson (Javelin and Hammer).

U17 Men – Tom Pool (400m U17 & Outright Club Record) and the 4 x 100m Relay Team of Aaron Williams, Joe Steele, Tom Pool and Andrew Gough.

U20 Men (Competing as Senior Men) James Drinkwater (3000m U20 & Outright Club Record).

Well done to all those athletes.

The only winning age group were the Under 17 Men who beat Peterborough by a clear 41 pts.

Our U13 Girls were a close 2nd to Nene Valley after winning performances by Zazie Hillsden (100m B and Discus A) Lisa Clarke and Holly Howitt (200m) Jonelle Turner and Lisa Clarke again (70m Hurdles) and guess who, Lisa Clarke and Holly Howitt in the Long Jump. The Relay Team easily won their race.

The Under 15 Girls Relay Team won possibly the race of the day, when Monica Bramwell closed a 10 metre on the last leg to win by 0.2s. Monica carried on her winning ways in the 100m, 200m and High Jump. Sarah Simpson showed her class by winning the 1500m by over 30 seconds, to get close to 5minutes. Well done also to Stephanie Chevalier and Claire Tucker who scored a Long Jump double, Claire improving her PB, but just failing to reach 4m. Rhianne Edwards won her High Jump B string.

The Senior Women’s Team (including the U17’s) were depleted by injury and other commitments, but still managed an excellent 2nd place. Reneisha Edwards ran a 14.1s in the 100m to win the B race, and the relay team and Karen Tiley in the 100m Hurdles were the only other track successes. The field events were the major contributors to the points total. There were wins for Maxine Hendrickson (Triple Jump) Denise Randall (Shot B) and Suzanna Wise (Discus and Javelin B).

A good day for the U13 boys, with Paul Clarke winning the 100m B and Isaac Rasmussen the 200m B. Bryn Reynolds and Peter Benedickter won their middle distance races, and then followed up that with a High Jump double.

The U15 Boy sprinter did well, with Yussuf winning both his B races and Theo Williams bettering Yussuf’s 200m Club Record in the A race, coming a close 2nd. Harry Durkin continued his form in the 80m Hurdles, breaking his club record in the process. Terry Paterson had good performances in the throwing events, especially the Hammer where he bettered his PB and the Club Record once again.

Andrew Gough scored yet another spring double in the Under 17 Men, backed up by two good PB’s by Aaron Williams in the B races. Joe Steele and Tom Pool joined them to equal the 4 x 100 Relay club record of 46.7s. Tom Pool was in great form, breaking the Senior Men’s Club Record in the 400m, and beating Matt Sutton in the process. He then managed to beat record holder Joe Steel in the Triple Jump. Joe, however, got the better of Tom by winning the Long Jump. Some more superb performances by the middle distance trio of Nathan Quigley, Tom Best and Craig Watkins saw maximum points in the 800m A and B races and the 1500m A. Joe Steele won the Shot for good measure, and Matt Sutton threw well again in the javelin, although he was beaten by a huge throw by the Peterborough athlete.

Our only Senior Men’s winner was Mark Collins in the Long Jump, with over 6m, but James Drinkwater ran a Club Record 9m 14.6s in the 3000m to come 2nd.
