Luton AC in English top 10

Luton AC competed at the English National Cross Country Relay Championships at Berry Park, Mansfield on Saturday and came away boasting a top 10 finish in the under 15 boys race.

Travel difficulties had provided some problems for the teams, which depleted some of the earlier start time races but Luton nevertheless produced some national class performances in these traditionally highly competitive races.

The main excitement for the club came in the under 15 boys race where Perry Howarth lead the team off in the 3 by 2000m race to record a time of 6 minutes 18 seconds and third place, 7th fastest individual of the day. This was a classy performance, bearing in mind that Perry is in his first year in his age group. Tom Best took over on the second leg, showed that his fine performances earlier in the winter are representative of a major step forward for the Luton boy. Tom maintained the team’s position in third with a time of 6 minutes 45 seconds handing over to Nathaniel Quigley for the final leg. Nathaniel ran strongly, recording 6 minutes 54 seconds, bringing the team home a highly credible 7th place.

It was the under 15 girls who provided the other highlight of the day for the club when they finished in the top 20 with 16th place. Sarah Simpson lead the team off, recording 7 minutes 20 seconds, just outside the overall individual top 10. Michelle Keepence ran the second leg in a fine 7 minutes 39 seconds and the team was completed with a fine run by Kayliegh Watkins in 7 minutes 57 seconds in 16th place.

Luton host the next round of the Chiltern Cross Country League on 29th November at Stockwood Pak where they hope to build on their current 5th place in division 1 of the league.
