Yateley Red Cross: Emergency Response www.yrx.org.uk
When called upon to do so by our area or national officers, Yateley Red Cross provides assistance in a variety of emergency situations. Sometimes arrangements can be made in advance. Sometimes a call comes unexpectedly.
Examples of Emergency Response work covered by members of Yateley Red Cross include the following.
7 July 2005 London bombing:
our ambulance and a crew provided support on the day;
members were deployed to local railway stations to provide assistance to those returning from London on the day of the bombings;
we provided personnel for the Family Assistance Centre;
we provided personnel for the Telephone Helpline;
we provided personnel to give emotional support to those present at the bombings to revisit the scenes of the bombings.
Members were present at a rest centre for the HMS Daedalus airfield evacuation, Leigh-on-the-Solent, in October 2006 while World War Two bombs were destroyed.
On a number of occasions, we have had members on standby to go to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
We had a team prepared at very short notice to go to an emergency rest centre during the flooding in July 2007.
All requests for Emergency Response work are made by the civilian authorities to our national or area offices.
