Lesson Objectives The skill that you will be using most frequently on the course is using and manipulating text. So these lessons will cover all of the basics of using text. During these lessons you will be covering a lot of ground. Most of the areas we touch upon will be things that you will have touched upon while using Word Processing in the past, but may be a little be rusty with. Having gone through some of the basics you will have a practical activity to practice you skills on. Word Processing - Key Skills The Key Skills that you will Review
WP Activity 1 In this Activity you are going to create a document that will state what the next exercise is all about. Open up a blank Word Processing document, Set as the font Arial, 12 Point, Black type in a Page heading of "Creating a Menu for an Internet Cafe" (centre align this, and change this heading to 16point) Insert 2 blank lines Type in the Heading "Purpose of the Activity" (Left Align this, and make it bold) On the next line you need to write a paragraph on what the next activity is about. This statement will let other people know what you are doing, how you are going to do it and what you should finish up with. In order to do this you should read WP Activity 2 Add a footer with your name on it Once you have finished, proof read, check your spelling Save this Document in your Key Skills Folder as "letter purpose" If you have time now move onto WP Activity 2 WP Activity 2 You have been asked to write a formal letter to The Times Newspaper, (66 Albion Street, London, Sw2 1WF) to ask them whether it is possible to get copies of their newspaper that were produced in previous years. Explain that you are doing a project on recent history and that you are doing research on what happened on the day that you were born. You need to tell them, your name, address, and the date of your birthday. You need to find out whether they do such things and if so how much it will cost. You should use Dear Sir and yours faithfully. Your letter should also have the date on it. When you have finished this letter save it into your Key Skills folder calling it "Newspaper Letter" You must make your letter look like a formal letter (2 straight lines, no paragraph indents, addresses in right place). If you need to remind yourself what one looks like , click here to have a look at one, or ask your tutor.
