  Why am I doing it?

There are a number of reasons why a Key Skills course has been set up for you.

  1. In the last few years while you may have been doing ICT as part of other subjects at school or other training, you have not had specific ICT Teaching that covers, in a integrated way, all of the basic skills in using and applying ICT. Some of you may feel that your skills are pretty good already, but some of you may feel that your ICT knowledge is a bit disjointed. This course will put it all back together again and make sense of it all by using your skills in real life situations.
  2. The Key Skills course is about the practical application of ICT Skills. There is not much theory on this course as all the time is spent on doing something to either learn a skill or demonstrate its use in a practical situation.
  3. The Key Skills course is about improving your ICT skills so that you can effectively use them to improve your work in other areas, so that you can do better in your GCSEs, GNVQs, AVCEs, AS and A-levels. You will also need these skills at work and in the education and training you do in the future.
  4. So there is nothing new about key skills. You are using them already, all the time. What’s new is that you are being given the chance to get better at them and to get a qualification that shows how good you are. This will boost your grades and help universities and employers to judge exactly what you can do.
