Lesson Objectives

You will be using the Internet throughout this course to search for and gather information for your assignments. Most of what you will be doing in these lessons will be things that hopefully you will already have done in the past. However the these skills are so important to your assignment that you need to practice them. In these lessons you will learn the key Internet Skills to use in your assignment and as answers to possible exam questions.

  • Using a Search engine
  • Using Hyperlinks
  • copying text and pictures into your work
  • Finding sites again (favourites)
  • Searching (wildcard, ? *)

Internet Activity 2 - Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks, or Hotspots are great ways of linking a browser page to either

Other peoples' Web Pages

or more of your own pages.

The way to find out whether there is a hyperlink is

  • If it is text that is hyperlinked then it will often be in blue with an underline (on this site hyperlinks are a different colour - which?
    is this a hyperlink?
    or is this a hyperlink?
  • If it is a picture that is hyperlinked to somewhere else, then as soon as you move your mouse over the top of it the cursor will change from an arrow to a hand

Internet Activity 3 - Using your skill

Your task is to find specific resources on the Internet using your searching skills. The Questions below asked you to find this information and then copy information onto a Word Document. You must answer all the questions in the Word Document. So the first thing to do is open that Word Document and put the title on it "Using the Internet". Now copy the table below from this page and add it to your "Using the Internet" page. Put all your answers - text and pictures into the appropriate boxes in the right hand column of the table. NOW TEST YOUR SKILLS!
