The 405 T16

This page is dedicated to the T16 model of the 405.

The T-16 is a very rare beast. It was never sold on the UK market (although 6 are in the UK), and only comes in left hand drive form (if you can find one!). Details on this car are a bit sketchy as probably less than 400 were produced. The car was a 2.0i Turbo Charged 4x4, but the car looks almost the same (see photo below - spot the difference?) as the Mi-16 4x4.

Following on from my original idea of gathering a list of current T16 owners, which ended up with twenty or so T16 owners being in contact by email, the T16 owners now have their own websites for online exchange of information pictures and more.  If you are a T16 owner, or have a Peugeot powered by a T16 engine, you can apply to join the 'T16 club'.

To visit the T16 club and to ask to join, go to www.yahoo.com , visit the 'groups' homepage, search for '405T16' where you will find the group.  You have to ask to join as this allows the group to decide if you should be allowed to join - it is for T16 owners only remember, not just for 405 owners of any model.

Only one of the UK car's owner is in the T16 club.  Come on the other 6 or more of you, go and join!

Total number of T16 owners in the club so far = 31 on 18/11/02

To help track all the T16's down, the best way is probably by the VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number). It will also be interesting to find out how many there are in each country. Information to date shows that 6 are in the UK (imported by Peugeot UK), 7 in the Netherlands, 60 or more sold in Germany , and around 50 were used by the French Gendarmerie (Police).... lucky lot!

As for performance details, well it is unlikely that any 2 T16's are the same. Most, if not all, would have had modifications carried out to improve performance. The base BHP figure appears to be around 196BHP, but other sources suggest this figure to be more like 210BHP. Of course all these figures are going to depend on settings with each car, for example the Garrett Turbo Charger boost settings. The only real way of getting some exact figures would be to have a day on a 'rolling road' to get true BHP figures, but again this would confirm that all the cars are different! 0-60 MPH times appear to be claimed as 7.1 secs , but again this is likely to be the slowest figure around, with 6 seconds being a commonly suggested figure. Top speed, well, the speedo only goes up to 230 km/h, and it appears that this is lower than the top speed achievable. Why the Mi-16 has a speedo that goes higher (240 km/h) is anyone's guess, but this is a little oversight by Peugeot, which apart from that, the T16 must go down as one of Peugeot's finest.

The table below lists the probable 'standard' engine performance figures:-

Engine Code / Type               BHP/RPM Lb/Feet / RPM MPH/1000rpm in top gear Top Speed 0-62 30-50 MPG
2.0i 16 Valve Turbo. 405 T16  196/5-6500  216/2600-4500 ? mph /1000revs 153 mph 7.1   ? irrelevant !
