Rules of the Guild
1. TITLE
a. The Society shall be called “Army Guild Of Bellringers" (hereinafter
called the Guild).
2. OBJECT
a. To unite Campanologists who meet the membership criteria.
3. CONSTITUTION
a. The Guild shall consist of President (Ex Officio Member) and Members.
4. CENTRAL COUNCIL
a. The Guild shall be affiliated to the Central Council of Church Bell
Ringers and shall observe its rules and decisions.
5. ADMINISTRATION
a. The administration of the Guild shall be vested in the Committee
consisting of: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Ringing Master. The
post of Secretary and Treasurer may be combined.
b. The officers of the Guild shall be elected at the AGM every other
year. (Chairman and Treasurer year one. The Secretary and Ringing Master
year two).
c. Official correspondence on behalf of the Guild is to be on Guild
headed paper available from the secretary.
6. VOTING
a. A simple majority at the Annual General Meeting or Special General
Meeting Convened under the general meeting rule is required to authorise
the~ following
(1) Membership to the Guild.
(2) Income and Expenditure of Guild funds.
b. Change to Guild rules.
(1) A minimum of 5l% of the membership is required to authorise a change
to the Guild rules. This may be made by proxy or in person at the AGM or
SGM.
7. GENERAL MEETING
a. A General Meeting of the Guild shall be held annually. The meeting
shall be held on the first Saturday in April, to receive reports and a
statement of accounts. A Special General Meeting may be called at any
time at a location to be agreed by the committee. A request to the
Secretary, signed by the President, Chairman, or not less than ten
ringing members of the Guild is required to convene a Special General
Meeting. The Secretary shall give one month's notice to the Guild of a
Special General Meeting, by posting to each person, particulars of the
business.
8. MEMBERSHIP
a. Ringing membership shall be open to the following,
(1) Retired or serving personnel, of any British Army Unit including the
TA and CCF/ACF Units.
(2) MOD personnel that have close links with the Army.
(3) Partners of personnel falling within the above criteria.
b. Life membership shall be conferred upon those who have completed 25
years membership of the Guild. The committee may also recommend any
individual for election to life membership at an Annual General Meeting
of the Guild in recognition of their services to the Guild.
c. Associate membership shall be open to non-ringers who wish to be
associated with and support the objects and activities of the Guild.
d. New members may join the Guild during the year. Membership of new
members is to be ratified at the AGM
e. A membership list is to be given to each member after the AGM
annotated with the Guild Officers at the top.
f. Membership that is more than two years in arrears shall be struck
off.
9. SUBSCRIPTIONS
a. Subscriptions fall due upon election and subsequently upon 1st April
each year. A member who fails to pay the subscription for the New Year
by the Annual General Meeting shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the
Guild. The amount of the subscription is £3.
10. CENTRAL FUND
a. The Treasurer shall maintain a statement of the central account. A
full report is to be prepared and submitted at the Annual General
Meeting. If the Guild folds for any reason then the Treasurer is to
close all accounts and submit a closing account statement and a cheque
to the chairman. The cheque is to be made out to the Central Bell
Restoration Fund.
b. A banking account is to be maintained with the HSBC bank and a
Ringing World account is to be maintained by the treasurer. The accounts
are to be kept in credit at all times.
c. The Chairman and Treasurer are authorised to sign cheques not
exceeding the value of £100 for the day-to -day running expenses of the
Guild. Expenditure exceeding this amount is to be authorised at the AGM.
d. The account is to have two authorised signatories who will be the
Chairman and Treasurer.
11. PEALS
a. Peals that are to be recognised by the Guild and have their details
published in the Annual General Meeting report must be rung by bands
composed entirely of members of the Guild.
12. ALTERATION OF RULES
a. No alteration or addition to the above rules may be made except at an
Annual General Meeting of the Guild or Special Meeting called for that
purpose. Notice of any such proposed alteration or addition must be
given in writing, at least two months before the date of the meeting, to
the secretary of the Guild. The secretary will inform all members of the
Guild of this proposal at least one month before the aforesaid meeting.
Any alteration or addition to the rules shall become effective on the
following day, after the meeting.
