RAF TRAINING COURSE - LINCOLN The RAF Organised a superb training session in Lincoln over the 9-12 Aug. The accommodation at Lincoln University was very good at £25 a night with en-suite facilities and a kitchen to do your own catering. There were no shortage of places to eat out and at very reasonable “student type prices”. The City Centre was within easy working distance and the University itself was next to a very nice marina. The ringing was split into one group of six and group of eight bell sessions with one and half hours ringing at each tower. The programme started off on the Friday with a theory session in the morning followed by two towers in the afternoon and ringing at a local tower practice night. Saturday saw ringing at three towers during the day followed by a wash up and social. Peter and Sally Cates improved their ringing tremendously, John Davey and I got to ring Stedman Doubles more times than we could shake a stick at along with some conducting of Stedman and Bob Minor. Richard Thomas cracked Bob Minor and moved swiftly onto Stedman Doubles. Peter Leigh was shipped off to the Double Norwich Group (8 bell group) which was a surprise to him! He thought he was going to sort out Grandsire Triples which he did actually achieve. We also need to thank Ian and Gill Bland who gave up their time to help out at the eight bell group and of course any body else who turned up to help and ring whom I didn’t get to see. I believe the RAF are going to organise something similar for next year in Lincoln but it will probably be in July and possibly run on a Thursday and Friday, arriving Wednesday evening and departing Saturday morning. TRI SERVICE MEETING The Tri Service meeting organised by the Army this year was a great success (no lock outs and enough ringers), there is a piece on the AGB website for those that want to read it. CHEDDAR Autumn Meeting The Cheddar meeting is going ahead as planned, please come along .There will be time to visit the Gorge for the non ringers, we could even organise a car share to get the ringers to one place and non-ringers to the Gorge. We also have Wells Cathedral booked and Westbury in Sub Mendip! Its got to be worth going along just so what the place is like! WINTER MEETING FEB 08 Peter
and Sally Cates have agreed to organise two towers during our February
outing in the Salisbury area. This means the planned trip to Chelmsford
is not going ahead as published in the dairy. The aim is to run a training
session to include bell handling, rounds and call changers and Bob Doubles.
We know there are many ringers in and around the Wiltshire area who would
welcome the support. To be a success we will also need good steady ringers
to help out, so do please do come along.
