Text Box: Vikings, Ghosts and Way–back-when

This exciting new show is Based in York but also is available to tour. Here are details of the York evening and below that is how you could get to see Adrian elsewhere. And below that how you could get to see Adrian on TV and on DVD.

Adrian Spendlow hits York this Thursday for his exciting new show of ‘stand-up storytelling’ before heading back around the country on his tour for Manilla Management.

Upstairs at Wills Bar on Goodramgate, York is the cosy home of this new show by Adrian. Good food is available from 5pm and Adrian is around upstairs from 7.30 with the show starting at 8.

There is a new show every month on the first Thursday.

All about York and its ghosts and myths and historical memories you will be informed, entertained and at times petrified!

Actually an audience recently were asked what it had been like and with fixed grins and rhythmic nods they allowed on member to speak for them, “Absolutely terrifying!”

Putting the poetry aside that he is so well known for, Adrian has developed the art of the story into a vibrant all action evening. All that and the food is lovely too.

Drawing on his roots he brings us comic and breathtaking recollections from three generations and beyond to share stories of the railroad and the ways of the town and the country. Enmeshed within the community he shares tales of the wildness of YesterYork with street fighting and gambling and the rich culture around.

As Jorvik’s writer in Residence Adrinskald the bard, you locals will have no doubt seen Adrian around Coppergate and the rest with his wild hair and ragged vestments bringing alive the magical myth of our Nordic heritage; albeit in a sometimes rather cute way!

He is at his best however drawing on the stories of York’s first ever ghost-walker Connie Spendlow who met all the witnesses and victims firsthand. The rest of the ghost gangs around the town all draw on these overheard stories and add in a fictitious way; Adrian brings together the voices of the witnesses of the past with the messages of mediums to bring us all new totally real recollections.

Come along and see this soon to be televised totally unique show.

Adrian is available to perform this show or adaptations of it elsewhere. Whether it is as part of a festival or an evening in its own right he will be there for you. (Just make a call, or a recommendation.)
