Text Box: Vikings and the Random Runes

The Essence of Journey project started at this years Viking Arts Week where we kicked of the theme for the year with maps, routes  and journeys.

The resultant work is available for your school or community project.

Resident Artist Lisa Nicholson designed a huge map and the children embellished it with the ships, trade goods and art work.

Adrinskald (That’s me) created chalk journeys and poems plus explored the concept of journey through the random runes.

A series of models specially created for Viking Arts Week each of which represents a rune and it’s meaning. The children choose three rue stones and find the model to which they belong. These three elements represent different story parts that are fitted together in a new way to create whole new stories.

The Mythic God cards were also developed especially for this event and have been very popular ever since. Representing mythic gods and beings they find the creature within that shows the very truth of your heart. Great fun in a crowd with a clip on mike, but one has to be sorry for the lady who chose Audhumla the ’giant cow’!

Road to Ragnarok

This exciting new mythology is available as a book or a school project. The 9 known worlds are explored through the drama of a group of children and their adventures. You get to act out all the parts as seen on TV and at the Jorvik Festival. Closely researched, each section covers a Nordic ceremony (funeral, tree dressing etc) and the beings and events of a world such as Viking heaven of the lands of the gods.
