I just thought I would have a look at what was on offer this year and
for next too from what I have been doing lately. Then festivals (such as Whitby World Music, Otley Black Sheep and
Broadstairs Folk) can have a think about how they might want to use me. Well with kids for a start. It is where I come into my own. And now I
am more of a storyteller than a poet. All the old exciting stuff is still
around such as the seaside poems and the pirate poems but the new directions
such as Viking work are opening up. Pete of Suitcase Circus was saying last year that he wanted to be
teamed with me all weekend because we bounce off each other well. I think he
was glad to be working with someone who wqs used to kids actually. He is a
past master by the way (Does that mean he is good?) He is very very good I
could watch him all day. The Random Runes are an aspect of the Viking work that works well with
all ages of kids or with a street crowd (as long as I have a mike clipped on.
Other use of models and scene is the river side stories based on the lives of
the people of the barges. All action and full of magical myth kids love this. As an adult. Yes I really am one. The storytelling has come to the
fore. Gimme an audience and leave ‘em with me. The old performance poetry me is coming out still and coming backing a
couple of guises. Acoustic? You want Janesonly, Beautiful vocals and
atmospheric percussion team with magical, rhythmic and rootsy poetry of old.
And yes they are, making me change my name to Jane. I am also teaming wth Restless Natives for a rock n poetry outfit
that can be just vocals and bass or the full-line up. Ade as a host is also an ongoing happenability. Manilla Promotions
have been using my skills as an intro poem writer with quote big bands and
giving Adrian his international flavour. So if you want a host that write an introduction for every
act…. Stop. What you want is to commission me to create a whole new show.
This doesn’t cost much more, say an extra fifty quid, and you can have a
story or poetry show specially for your needs or theme. Considering all the
work researching and writing this should be more but if one place wants it
another will. You could even have a kids version for the day and a grown ups
storytelling version for the evening two commissions in one. What themes and
flows do you have? You my want top send Adrian out into the community so your festival
spirals out into the hearts of the local people and reaches those who cannot
reach you. Such as the banner project for the Viking Festival can take
writing story and performance with the option of art into the groups who need
it. Then if you for instance used the journey theme your groups work could be
part of performance and display. |
