STOP PRESS Exciting new project The Adrian Spendlow Band - or whatever we are going to call ourselves.
Adrian Spendlow and
the Girls was suggested but Jeff of Classic
thought it was me and my daughters?!!? We are brand new and gigging already.
Double bills with international acts, supports for friends (who in turn are
supporting us!) and headlining at festivals. (More of that on the
chat page) We are
Samantha Thompson on electric lead
Jane Stockdale Vocalisation
Wendy Woodford Drums Adrian Spendlow words We improvise! Ideal for chill-outs,
Literature festivals, Restaurant performances etc. Mellow, laid back but we
rock. Poems chosen at random are introduced and generally chatted about as
the band listen in and then they work out a way to go from there. It is so
cool audiences don’t believe us that it is all fresh and first time that way.
We headlined at Otley Black Sheep Festival after only one jam session and
filled the night on our own. (See
gigs for
more detail) Jane is a member of Percussion Café and world
music choir Chechelele plus she used to headline festivals with the amazing
Frankly My Dear. Wendy was on Spendlow The DVD. Classically trained
she is qualified to teach piano and percussion. An Evelyn Glenny pupil she
has also worked with Nicko McBrain and with Simon Rattle at the Royal Albert
Hall among other places. She has worked with the Birmingham Symphonic and
Hilary Daven-Whetton AND she knows how to tune a triangle! Adrian has, well this 200 plus page website is full
of his accomplishments, they do include jamming with Martin Fletcher’s Usual
Suspects, Celtarabia and Tim Hain and the Works. He has performed at
Cheltenham Literature Festival, Henley on Thames Festival of Music and the
Arts and generally all over the place. (400 poems to commission this year) Four person Canadian spoken
word/music troupe, 3rd European tour Barbara Adler – three time
member of the acclaimed Vancouver SLAM team Brendan McLeod – Canadian
Champion SLAM poet Mark Berube –
multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters CR Avery – musician and poet,
“Search this man out” – Tom Waits Worlds Second highest ranked
slam poet We are thrilled that the
Fugitives are fitting a double bill with us into their world tour! Spee 69 of Player Two known around the north of
England for such as the Vinyl Explosion nights in York is teaming with me:
Kind of Godfather of Performance Poetry meets the future of hip hop. We are
currently looking for smaller venues with atmosphere with plans to move on to
bigger things after enjoying being mellow. Martin of Martin Fletcher’s
Usual Suspects, (We met up at Whitby World Music Festival) is always willing
to team up with Adrian for a gig. Blues Harmonica, hip hop and performance
poetry. DVD News The live DVD will be with me
shortly and I’ll let you know when they will be available. Performers I have to thank
for the making of SPENDLOW live are: James Christie (It jus twouldn’t have
happened without him), Vicki Barre, Deanna Kolade, Lucy Potter, Gill
Brownson, Julie Ellison (Or without her) and Jane Hickling. We made the thing initially
to send out to TV producers and befor ewe have even got it finished we’ve got
interest. A TV producer has seen the first rushes, quite by chance, and hee
says he wants a dozen copies to put on the desks of the people who matter,
that I have marketable face and just have to be on television. Excellent singer/songwriter
Julie Ellison teams up with Adrian in something ever-so-subtly-different.
Heartfelt songs, beautiful voice and much admired guitar work blend
surprisingly well with Adrian’s words. Ideal for arts centres/folk events and
anywhere people want to feel they have become part of it all. (Also available
with subtly beautiful percussion from Jane Hickling) Dave Moss of Banoffi Centred around Adrian’s
words, Fiddle/Cello/Guitar/Bouzouki n beautiful vocals from Dave Moss of the
much travelled Banoffi. Dan Webster Up and coming songwriter
described by Radio York as “A voice to watch out for” By Yorkshire Evening
Press as “Powerful stuff”, he creates a truly beautiful atmosphere and is
great fun to be with. “Moving - thought provoking” Together we can move you
to tears or transport you to your inner self or just plain make you laugh. Adrian’s words meld in well
with music and more and more bands and performers are getting interested in
working with him. Check out the acts below or
maybe you fancy a collaboration. Perhaps your band would have room for a
‘meld’ - Adrian would guest with your band slotting his words painlessly into
your music. |
