At J E Spence we have an extensive collection of over 400 antique
reverse carved composition moulds dating back hundreds of years.
These were used extensively from the late 1700s to manufacture
applied mouldings for decorating firesurrounds, dado, architrave's,
panelling, furniture and much more.
We still make the ‘compo’ today using the traditional mixtures of
resin, french chalk, linseed oil & glue & use the original hand screw
press.
We can supply the composition for restoration work to be applied by
yourself, or we can supply machined timber moulds with the ‘compo’
applied ready for finishing.
We also produce a wide variety of mantlepieces from timber &
composition using traditional construction methods & designs
suitable for the period or listed house.
